Quantitative determination of the absorption spectra of chromophores in strongly scattering media: a light-emitting-diode based technique.

چکیده
The absorption and scattering coefficient of a macroscopically homogeneous strongly scattering medium (lipid emulsion) containing Methylene Blue is quantitatively measured in the spectral range from 620 to 700 nm. We conduct the measurements in the frequency domain by using a light-emitting diode (LED) whose intensity is modulated at a frequency of 60 MHz. We derive an analytical expression for the absorption and scattering coefficients that is based on a two-distance measurement technique. A comparison with other measurement protocols such as measurement at two modulation frequencies shows that the two-distance method gives a better determination of the scattering and absorption coefficients. This study highlights the efficiency and ease of use of the LED technique, which lends itself to in vivo spectroscopy of biological tissues.

Determination of absorption coefficients in highly scattering media from changes in attenuation and phase.
The accurate, quantitative analysis of absorption and scattering properties in tissue is a central problem in biochemical optics, in particular for the determination of hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin concentrations. Because of light scattering, the absolute concentrations of these chromophores (i.e., the absorption coefficient) cannot easily be inferred. A new method for the estimation of the abs...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effect of Recombination on Superluminescent Light-Emitting Diode Output Power Based on Nitride Pyramid Quantum Dots
In this article, the temperature behavior of output power of superluminescent light-emitting diode (SLED) by considering the effect of non-radiative recombination coefficient, non-radiative spontaneous emission coefficient and Auger recombination coefficients has been investigated. For this aim, GaN pyramidal quantum dots were used as the active region. The numerical method has been used to sol...
متن کاملComparative evaluation of the effect of Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Quartz Tungsten Halogen (QTH) light curing units on color stability of Filtek Z350 XT
Introduction:Discoloration of the resin-based composites is a common problem in restorative dentistry. There are many factors associated with the discoloration of dental materials in the oral environment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color changes in a nano-composite cured with a quartz-tungsten-halogen (QTH) and light emitting diode (LED) unit. Methods:80 disk-shaped specim...
متن کاملWavelength-Ratiometric Plasmon Light Scattering-Based Immunoassays
The application of a wavelength-ratiometric plasmon light scattering technique to immunoassays is demonstrated. A model immunoassay for anti-immunoglobulin G (IgG), constructed in gold colloid-modified high-throughput screening wells, was monitored by the changes in the intensity of scattered light (with transmitted light) from gold colloids as a result of antibody–antibody interactions. The qu...
